Hi - I'm planning on coming from the UK with my father (aged 68) to Durban to see a couple of games next June. Anyone know of good locations and accomodation to stay at for a weeks visit? I've seen a suggestion of Umlhanga Rocks and also North Durban but not sure of how close they are to the city, beaches and football stadium. Also what is ghe best and safest way to get around (taxi or ?)

many thanks for any help

Hi Senior

The residential suburbs of Durban would be best, as they are close to the stadium and in good upmarket areas of the city. Areas such as Morningside or Berea are ideal. Umhlanga Rocks is also a good area, but is a bit far from the stadium.

At the moment, FIFA is organising the accommodation through their hospitality branch called MATCH. Only select tour operators are able to book accommodation at this time. As you are coming from the UK, I can recommend the following:

www.thomascooksport.com
www.thomsonsport.com/football
www.keithprowse.co.uk
www.bacsport.co.uk

Best of luck and enjoy the Footie!

Hi Senior, if you would like to send an email to me at mastercrafter67@yahoo.com I will send you details of accomodation and transport ideas. Durban is a fantastic place from which to base yourself, as it has by far the best weather at that time of year. Best regards, James

Hi Senior

I own a stunning self catering apartment right on the beach not far from Durban airport. Its a 30 minute drive to the stadium. If your looking for accommodation in Durban then check my website out Durbanaccomodation.net

Concerning transport. Taxis are an option but renting a car which you can pickup at the airport when you arrive and drop off when you leave is the best solution. Try this website for car rental to coincide with the dates you plan to come: europcar.co.za/

If you need any more information about South Africa or Durban don't hesitate to contact me via my site.

Hello Senior

I am currently living in England. I have two semi-detatched houses in Durban about a 15 minute drive to the stadium. The location is within walking distance to shops and restaurants and bus routes. The closest beach area is about a 15 minute drive to the new Twekweni Dolphinarium beach front area. There is enclosed, off-road parking for two cars on each side. The houses have two bedrooms each, large lounge, dining and kitchen and full bathrooms. I would be happy to accept 100.00 pounds a day per side. The area is called Glenmore / Umbilo close to Berea. Very conveniently situated, newly renovated and in a safe area. There is a caretaker on the property who is very helpful and friendly and would be very happy to assist with info whilst there.

Hi Senior
I live in a beautiful home in Durban North which is 5 minutes away from the stadium and is considered an upmarket area.
I have an upstairs guest suite with seaviews which sleeps 4 and another bedroom next to the swimming pool. All these have their own entrances and bathroom facilities.
Laundry and maid service will be available.
I can offer a warm, family, hospitable and safe environment with parking.
I would prefer either a family or 3 couples.
Should you be interested, you may e-mail me at: baptie@saol.com
Regards Colleen Baptie (Mrs)
